The atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima in 1945 was the equivalent of 15,000 tonnes of TNT.
Israel/ The West just dropped five times that amount on Gaza in the “war” against Hamas (2023-2025). Imagine we’d dropped five atomic bombs on a thin strip of land the length of a marathon - albeit without the radiation.
The Vietnam War (1965–1973) was the equivalent of five hundred Hiroshimas, twice even that of WWII (1939–1945).
However, while the Vietnam War was one hundred Gazas, it took place over nearly a decade and a large geographic area.
Our Gaza bombing took place over an unusually tiny area of land and a short time period - with a very densely packed population.
Then we sent in an army.
In terms of bombing density per square kilometer, Gaza has experienced the most concentrated aerial bombardment in history - ten times more even than Vietnam.
As I argued last year, Gaza looks set to be not just a genocide, but one of the worst genocides in modern history, likely exceeding Cambodia in relative scale.
But there’s also good case to be made that no place has ever been deliberately as intensely pulverised as contemporary Gaza.
Excellent! Terrible statistics, however, for which we cannot find any qualifiers or superlatives that could account for the feelings they inspire. However, for my part, I refuse to consider Israel as the main responsible of these horrors that have no equivalent in the recent history of humanity, a history that has nevertheless been fertile in mass criminal excesses and perversions since, let’s say, the Second World War. Israel is only the armed wing of the West and, first and foremost, of the bellicose and arrogant policy of the US Hegemon without which none of this would have happened, or at least in less frightening proportions…. A real curse has fallen on America and the omens are not good… This does not seem likely to change, at least in a good way…
Atrocious. Thank you for sharing it
